Before packing up your bedroom, start by gathering all of the packing supplies you will need:

  • Sturdy boxes with flaps that can be completely closed
  • Packing paper
  • Packing tape
  • Permanent markers

Your bedroom likely has a mix of both large, heavy furniture as well as soft items like linens and clothes. You can pack up these items more efficiently by following these easy moving tips:

Clothes & Linens

Wardrobe boxes are perfect for transporting suits and eveningwear, each one holds about two feet of compressed clothing on hangers. If wardrobe cartons are not an option, remove each garment from its hanger, fold and place in a suitcase or a carton lined with clean paper. Protect linens like blankets, sheets, towels and pillowcases with plastic before packing them.

Small Appliances

Small Appliances such as clocks and radios should be wrapped individually and pack in a box cushioned with crushed paper.

Books & Photos

Pack books into small boxes so they are not too heavy and easy to carry. Place them with the spine down and the open side of the book facing up. Your framed photos and artwork should be wrapped individually with packing paper and stand them on their edges inside the box. If possible, carry heirloom items like old or irreplaceable photos with you. Pack all of your boxes tightly with crumpled packing paper to prevent objects from shifting too much during the move.

Bed

We recommend using a mattress carton when moving your bed to protect it from dirt and dust during the move.
