The Story of East Side Van & Storage and West Side Moving & Storage
Vern Tufford purchased East Side Van & Storage in 1956. In 1981, he opened a second location also in Portland: West Side Moving & Storage. Over time, Tufford passed the business down to his daughters, Karen Ashcraft and Jody Kilgore, who skillfully operated both companies. With Ashcraft and Kilgore at the helm, East Side Van & Storage and West Side Moving & Storage reached new heights in customer service and won several Mayflower Transit quality awards over the decades.
Enhancing Chipman's Services in the Portland Market
Chipman Relocation & Logistics, a multi-generational family owned and operated business, was founded by Art and Dorothy Chipman in 1939, located in Vallejo, CA. Today, Chipman operates full-service companies on the West Coast—from Seattle to San Diego—and is a shareholder agent of Unigroup, the largest household goods transportation company in North America.“The acquisition of East Side and West Side will provide Chipman with an increased capacity to better serve our Unigroup partners and clients in the greater Portland market,” says Justin Chipman, President of Chipman Relocation & Logistics.
