There are laws that prohibit movers from transporting some types of perishable goods. Pack only food items that will travel well and check with your moving consultant before packing food.
Use tape to seal open boxes of dried or powdered foods such as grains, pastas and cereals. Small containers of herbs, spices, condiments, etc. should be placed together in a small box before packing in a large carton. Cover holes of shaker-type containers and seal with tape.
Canned goods can be very heavy and will add to your moving cost, in most cases it is more affordable to replace them at your destination. Evaluate the need to transport them before packing them and consider donating them to your local food bank.
Always avoid transporting frozen goods and perishables during a move. Many frozen goods are subject to transportation restrictions, so be sure to ask your moving consultant ahead of time. Do not transport frozen or refrigerated goods in an unplugged appliance, even when moving short distances. A third-party service may be needed to transport foods on a refrigerated truck to a local cold storage facility while you move from location to location.
