We recommend using specialty wardrobe boxes with built-in racks for transporting hanging clothes. They will prevent wrinkles and damage to your clothes, not to mention easy packing and unpacking.
Clothes on hangers
Wardrobe boxes are perfect for transporting suits and evening wear, each one holds about two feet of compressed clothing on hangers. They are available for purchase from your moving consultant. If wardrobe cartons are not an option, remove each garment from its hanger, fold and place in a suitcase or a carton lined with clean paper. Some lightweight clothing — such as lingerie and sweaters — may be left in bureau drawers.
Hats
Hats should be packed in hatboxes and then placed in a large carton. If you don't have hatboxes available, stuff the crown with crumpled tissue paper, wrap tissue loosely around the outside and place hat in a carton lined with unprinted paper. Place heavier hats on the bottom and do not pack anything else with your hats.
Shoes
Your shoes should be transported in their original boxes. If these are not available, wrap each shoe individually and then in pairs. Be mindful of your shoes finish, heels and ornaments and do not pack heavy items on top of them.
Leather and furs
Fur and leather are especially sensitive to moisture and temperature, and in some cases very valuable. We recommend you take them with you.
